My Students

My students walk into the classroom every day full of life with lots of energy and an eagerness to learn. My second grade class is composed of 20 inquisitive students, many of whom come from a bilingual households and receive free lunch.

Our Title I school serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade and we provide rigorous academics, amazing teachers, and a safe and caring learning environment.

Our goal is to prepare our students for success in their lives and at school. We strive to create strong, kind, caring citizens of our community.

My Project

This project will provide 2 scholastic magazines for my students in the 2018 - 2019 school year. Scholastic magazines follow the Florida standards and ties them to the real world for students. It brings what we learn in the classroom to life for the students as we read and learn about it.

Scholastic News and Science Spin meets the academic standards showing students that learning can be relevant to what's in the world today.

Teaching students about our environment is important for our future. Some of the topics this magazine subscription covers are investigations, interdependent relationships of ecosystems, our human impact on the Earth, and much more. The articles are interesting and tend to draw readers in making their science education more fun. The magazines also has experiments within them that I can do with the students to engage them in hands-on learning.

Scholastic News gives students engaging stories that adds to our curriculum. It also gives us access to more online material for students to learn from. This magazine helps integrate reading into the other core subjects. These magazines are appealing to students, fun, and add interest to subjects in our class.

The addition of these learning magazines to my classroom would also help connect school and home learning. These magazines will go home with students creating new topics of discussion in the home and will make classroom lessons more relevant in student's daily lives.
