Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a 12:1:1 classroom. They have been together for five years and are excited for a new year and new start! My students are all learning disabled, but are full of energy and excitement. They are well-behaved and love science and math. Our school is a Title I school for every student receiving free lunch.
Learning disabilities do not keep my students from achieving their goals.
They work extra hard to keep up and they enjoy learning new topics.
My Project
My special education class is requesting Scholastic News magazines and math workbooks for the new school year! We plan on using these weekly papers for independent work, homework and for current events. Students love these magazines because the stories are high interest and written on their level. Each night for homework, students are to read a different section and answer higher level questions about what they read in their notebooks. We especially loved the holiday issues and learning about holidays around the world. The math workbooks will be used as Do Nows for morning work. We will use the weekly assessments as homework.
Last year's class was so excited about these donated magazines and workbooks, that I hope this year's class has the same experience!
