We are a Title I school on the west side of Indianapolis. We have 32 languages spoken at our school. We are 100% free lunch. We are a class full of many different types of learners. Our classroom has many different students from all over the world. One thing we have in common... We LOVE learning about OUR WORLD.
My students are happy, energetic, and love learning about new concepts, places, animals, and people.
In the second grade, we are getting our students ready for the IREAD and ILEARN assessments in third grade that focuses mainly on reading and writing. Scholastic News is an excellent newspaper for children to learn while enjoying and practicing their READING skills.
The Second Graders at my school need classroom subscriptions to this non-fiction resource. Scholastic News allows our students to visit and learn about the World around them. What you know about, you will care about! Every Monday, we get out our new Scholastic News for the week. It is always extremely exciting and engaging for our students. First is the video to introduce the topic. Next, is the Vocabulary which always includes a picture. Third, we practice our reading or we read along with the online issue. Finally a skill sheet. Lastly, a super fun, engaging game.
