Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students enter the class ready to learn. We start the lesson with a class starter to get our minds prepared for math and science concepts and skills. The class starters have a variety of skills and allow everyone to participate, no matter what their level may be.
My students are children with learning disabilities and English Language Learners.
They come to me with a variety of academic skill levels and personal difficulties. Our classroom has become a community of learners that support and care about each other. They have created a class that is safe for everyone succeed.
Our school in located in an urban district with a high level of poverty in the area. We are a K-8 school, with the middle school recently being added. Many of my students are from single-parent homes and those that have immigrated here. Our school is a place that provides a safe and caring space for children. The students refer to each other and their teachers as their school family. All of our students are referred to as scholars on a daily basis.
My Project
The resources would be a great support in the classroom. Students with learning disabilities would be able to see the calculators clearly with the See N solve calculators. For many of them, recall and processing interferes with their learning, and visuals truly support their needs.
As we try to convince students that math is crucial in their everyday lives, they are not always convinced. The Scholastic Math magazines provide so many great articles with math skills. This is an amazing way to reinforce the understanding and importance of math.
Visuals are a great way to support learners. Having globes, balances, and other hands-on materials in class does spark the interest of children.
The donations will enhance our classroom and the students' variety of learning styles.
The materials will support multi-sensory approaches for delivering instruction. I also believe that having materials that are accessible to students supports those students that have difficulty visualizing things. With so many students from other countries, the materials will help with understanding.
