Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a kindergarten teacher in a high-poverty school district. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the obstacles that my students face, I want to provide my students with all of the materials needed to succeed.
I have twenty-three excited and eager students.
The students in kindergarten love to learn and look forward to coming to school each day. For many of these students, this is the only stable and safe place that they have.
My Project
The Scholastic magazine subscriptions I am requesting will give my students access to non-fiction reading material that is on their level. Kindergarten students are very interested in reading non-fiction. These magazines will expand their vocabulary and boost their interest as they practice reading. Most of my students do not have access to reading materials in their homes. They would be able to share this subscription at home and end up with a collection of 32 different magazines.
These magazine subscriptions will be read in the classroom and then taken home.
They will benefit every kindergarten student in my class! Magazines with current kindergarten events open minds and instill a love of reading and wonder in a child. Once a child learns to read, a whole world opens up.
