As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide a sparkling, engaging classroom with all the bells and whistles. I want my students to love their school and take pride in their classroom and have the tools they need to succeed.
My students are eager, energetic, and spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read, and they crave positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success. They are learning English as a second language.
My Project
These magazines will engage my students in vibrant pictures and graphics. There is a Smartboard link with the magazines. We can read them together on the Smartboard and watch video clips that reinforce the content. Plus, there are online activities that connect to grade level content.
Scholastic magazines will provide my students with vibrant materials to help them gain new English vocabulary and early literacy skills.
These magazines are bright and exciting and will engage students in current topics and help them learn more about the world around them. My students will also be excited to take the magazines home!
My students will learn English quickly by being actively engaged in reading magazines and using the online components of the magazine to bring the content to life and reinforce with the Smartboard.
