My Students

The students in my second grade classroom mirror the diversity we see in America today. So many of them are tied to the military and come from various places and backgrounds. We are a Title I school in South Eastern North Carolina, which means most of my students receive free or reduced priced lunch because they are low income or high poverty. My students are fun loving and enthusiastic learners who deserve the best.

Their creativity and imagination have no limits--if given no limits!

That's where you come in!

My Project

So often the study of science and social studies is overlooked in the k-2 classroom, in favor of more popular subjects that are "tested", such as math and reading. More and more we are seeing the emergence of STEM focused education. Subscriptions to Scholastic News are my way of trying to integrate English Language Arts with not only science, but social studies, in a way that makes sense and is conducive to the learning of my students.

Scholastic News magazines will extend our knowledge of science and social studies topics while also allowing us to engage with a non-fiction text!

By donating to my project you are helping to provide an exciting resource that will empower students to make connections to the world around them as they grow as readers! Students often struggle to read informational texts, however, Scholastic's engaging and on grade level passages help students to gain confidence as readers while they gather information on topics relevant to what we are learning in and out of the classroom each and every day.
