Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an inner-city school with students who are curious about the world around them but might not necessarily have the tools and opportunities to do so. They are an active bunch that enjoys new and exciting things, hands-on activities, and movement! I have a classroom of 22 students ranging from the ages of 4 to 6, from various backgrounds and cultures. I have students with disabilities, students learning English, and students that may have a tough home life. We call school a 'safe and happy place' where they can be themselves and relax for a few hours while we learn.
Every day is a new adventure with them, and they teach me, as much as I teach them.
I am constantly amazed by their determination, adult personalities, eagerness to learn, and the smiles on their faces regardless of hardships they may face.
I strive to show them that learning can be fun and to show them possibilities that await them as they continue to grow up. I want them to be the best possible version of themselves and never give up on their dreams.
My Project
Materials I am asking for are Scholastic Magazines for my kindergarten classroom. This resource talks about social studies and science topics throughout the school year in a magazine form. My students will love the online components that come with these magazines that we can use in the classroom! They can also keep and take the magazines home so they can reread, and teach others about their day; this is something they will love! In my school, we do not have a specific science and social studies curriculum that we follow, therefore these are great resources to discuss holidays, the seasons, and other topics as the year goes on. My students love new things and being active, therefore the activities and hands-on learning with their own materials will be very exciting for them!
