Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at an elementary school with a high level of English Language Learners and a low socioeconomic status. My students love to learn and want to know more about the world around them. Projects like this help them to receive the materials they need to expand their knowledge.

My students love learning in creative ways.

Silly stories, interactive activities, and games help to create interest in the learning process and help them remember the lessons taught. Seeing them learn, create, and discover reminds me why I wanted to be a teacher.

My Project

My students need a year subscription to Scholastic News for Kids. These magazines cover a wide variety of topics within the realms of science, social studies, and current events in a way that is user-friendly for students.

Our science and social studies textbooks are outdated and these magazines will help to close the gap between the old standards and the new Common Core standards.

These magazines will provide relevant and current information to students on today's issues. The magazines also feature large, engaging photographs, something lacking in many textbooks.

The magazine subscription also comes with access to many extension activities and online resources. These extra components will aid in the comprehension of the material for my students. They also LOVE getting to watch the short videos that correlate with what they read.
