"At home you learn who you are, at school you learn who you can be!"
My students are caring, loving and smart individuals who LOVE to move.
Each student is a diverse learner and have individual needs ranging from IEP's to love and counseling. I call each student in and out of my classroom my Ohana. "Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." This saying is from the movie, Lilo and Stitch. My students and I live by this motto and stick together as a family. Most of the time, I buy my students materials. Over the past 13 years of teaching in the district, I have always given my students hugs before the day begins and when they leave me to head home. This gesture sends a message to my students that they are loved. Moreover, my Ohana deserves the to have the best learning environment.
My Project
Scholastic magazines will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that the 2nd grade teachers strive to create. Our classroom library is a place where students really enjoy reading, especially learning about the world around them where they can become independent readers! Every students Scholastic magazine that is donated, will be treated with love and care, and our students are thankful for the opportunities to read.
With these Scholastic magazines, our students will be able to learn about our ever changing world through a news based magazine made just for them!
They will also be able to choose topics of news that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these magazines will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading. As we enter into a new school year, we want our students to become independent readers, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word through real world learning!
