My students need an LCD projector so that they will be able to experience an in-depth education.
We're bringing an honors curriculum to students who have been denied one for much too long! I teach English and reading at a high needs school in Pennsylvania. I am a special education teacher, and I work with some very challenging, but very promising 9th - 12th grade students. Our school is in a high poverty area, has a large portion of special needs students, and has some of the lowest test scores in the district. For the first year, our school is starting an honors program and I will be teaching the honors special education English course. These students all have tremendous potential and have worked hard to succeed in spite of very large obstacles. They have proven themselves to be excellent students, and deserve a class that will challenge them, just like their general education peers.
My colleagues and I are doing all we can to do right for our children and provide them with the education they deserve. Our students are begging to be challenged. When I tell them that we are going to run our class like a college class their eyes light up. They know that they have the potential to do amazing things! We are providing our students with our best, but we're hitting a wall: our students need creative instruction so that we can deliver the highly challenging curriculum they deserve while still accommodating for their disabilities.
The solution? An LCD projector to help us integrate challenging and engaging internet content into the classroom. We need to go beyond the traditional English textbook to do two things: first, work around our students disabilities so that they can have access to the curriculum, and second, challenge our students with the additional materials that an LCD projector can help us bring into the classroom.
My students have been told they are "dumb" for too long. Finally, we are going to acknowledge the tremendous potential they each have. With your help, we will be able to provide the resources they deserve. High quality students deserve a high quality education.
