Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Being a high school English teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to prepare young ladies and gentlemen for college and career readiness by having them read challenging and engaging literary texts that are thought-provoking, as well as culturally relevant to their shared experiences. My students are about to take a state exam in which they must demonstrate that they can analyze and interpret mostly non-fiction writing through literary analysis and essay writing.

The students that I teach are precocious and intelligent young ladies and gentlemen who wish to succeed in every way possible.

They are often hungry to read books that are challenging and enjoyable, and in reading texts that they can relate to from prior knowledge. My students are often funny, with a strong determination in using education as a way for future success.

This spring semester, my 11th grade English class is continuing reading a unit on literature that establishes the main ideas of acceptance, self-love and continued study of our complicated world. We would like 40 copies of Shakespeare's No Fear Othello series.

My Project

In our 11th grade class, we are about to study William Shakespeare's classic Othello. We need the No Fear publication because it is written both in plain English and Shakespearean English.

Students have difficulty with the complex language that the Bard offers, so a way to translate the text to modern English would be a huge help in teaching Othello's universal themes.

No Fear Shakespeare helps students understand the plot while learning about his universal themes. It is the best way to help challenging readers understand the text. It would be a huge help for us!
