This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have grit and curiosity about themselves and the outside world.
In a country where, slowly, but surely, the sciences are no longer taking a precedence, my STEAM students are rushing forward!
My school services a large and diverse population of African American and Latino young women and men from the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and even New Jersey. As aspiring health professionals and scientists, my students are taking every opportunity to better themselves and become science-literate citizens of the world.
My students are very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive lab and earn credit for their future endeavors.
My Project
In the school building, our students are given the supports to be the best they can be and reach those goals. With the onset of remote learning, some students are at a disadvantage.
Education is a right, not a privilege.
In our Scholarly Success Kits, students will have the academic basics to finish what they began in September. Writing utensils, like pens and pencils, will help them document content in their notebooks and annotate their thoughts on page margins. Science study guides will help them condense broad topics into digestible bites for end of the year exams. Artistic supplies will add color to assessments and college portfolios. With the addition of a snack or two, these Scholar Success Kits will level the playing field for students who have reached out for help and deserve no less!
