My students need an LCD projector so that they may experience projected scenery in their plays.
This project expired on May 31, 2013.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
As Anna Held once said, "Costumes and scenery alone will not attract an audience", but they surely can help!
My students are curious, bright, inner-city children who are impacted daily by crime, gangs, and poverty.
These children want to make an artistic statement that they can be proud of. They know of scenery through movies but have never seen it in real life or used it on stage.
Many of my schools are Title 1, it is real work for these children to come to school, my theater class gives many of them that extra incentive to come. I use different technologies and art forms daily in my classroom to inspire, entertain and educate my students. Often they find new ways to express themselves with their imaginations, bodies and voices by interacting with what I bring to them.
My students learn about theater in an open space, not unlike the kind that Peter Brook envisioned in The Empty Space or Grotowski describes in Towards a Poor Theater. In this day and age however, with access to a projector and computer, my students can experience the ocean ebbing and flowing next to them, they can be transported to a dungeon deep within a castle, or high up on the Eiffel tower all with projected imagery. This project will enhance their burgeoning imaginations, allowing them a larger lens through which to view the world.
I have had 2 other projects supported and paid for through the DonorsChoose program, the experience is immense for my students.
The pride and ownership they feel when making creative choices is staggering. Adding digital imagery as scenery will give their work a much more professional look because it is what they use on Broadway!
