"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime," is an old Chinese Proverb that is still very true today. It is hard for my students to fully grasp a concept they cannot see in front of them.
I work in a large school in the middle of an area that is not known for wealth.
I have 23 students in my classroom that enjoy learning and enjoy being at school. Most of my students are from low socioeconomic families and do not have all the necessary materials they need for school. All of my students are very friendly and outgoing. My school is an older school, that is bursting at its seams with student's even after adding a new building!
My Project
I am asking for a small, desktop scanner for my classroom. With this scanner, I will be able to complete MANY task. Some small but most large. Right now, I have no way to take a teacher created sheet or a page from a book and put it on my SMART board to share with my class. My students miss out on a wide variety of leaning opportunities by missing this visual. If I had a way to scan a sheet we are working on before they lesson, I could show them exactly what I am talking about. A scanner is also a wonderful way to share papers or assignment with parents. If a child is not at school, I would have the resources to scan the assignments into the computer and send it to the student. I would also have a means to send parents work that a student is working on or needs help with and not lose any original work or papers. These are just a few wonderful ideas I would be able to accomplish with this one small piece of equipment.
For such a small need, a scanner will make a large difference in the lives of not only the 23 children I am teaching now, but also many more students that are still to come.
I enjoy what I do and am always looking for ways to improve my teaching and the impact I have on the future of our country.
