Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a new Librarian in a public, inner city school located in New Britain, Connecticut. We have 700+ students in grades 6th-8th with a 14% literacy rate in our state. 100% of our students participate in the Free/Reduced breakfast and lunch program and we have a 67% Hispanic student base.

I want to grow our library into an exciting place to be, and inspire students about art, literature, music, and technology. Engaging them with new, featured, and themed books. Create an environment that encourages personal growth with access to resources and staff that are readily available.
My Project
We are on a journey to create a positive place to learn and work. An environment that is quiet, clean, and user friendly. Where resources and staff are readily available to assist students in their personal growth.
These supplies donated will help give us a more "book-store" feeling and engage students by featuring a particular collection.
Currently, students flock to one section, Graphic Novels. This project will allow us to demonstrate to our students the variety of resources available to them. Our goal is to monthly plan a themed topic around a certain collection. Then allow students to demonstrate their knowledge with a small questionnaire.
By improving our Media space we hope to give our students a sense of pride in our Library. An inviting place for them to relax or study. A place where they can be mentored and encouraged.
