Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the School Nurse MA for an inner-city, Title I, public school in Dallas, TX. Our school now consists of 1400 middle school scholars in grades 6-8. Our clinic is very busy and we assist our students for varying degrees of medical reasons, from daily medication administrations, to injuries, to life-threatening situations!
Many of our students and families rely on our expert care for their healthcare needs.
We assist students and families with personal care, nutritional counseling, finding resources and answering all questions related to their health and wellness.
My Project
My project "Say No to Stench" is to help curb stenchy smells associated with middle schoolers going through puberty!
My middle school students are learning how to care for themselves hygienically and we want to help them be prepared!
Our main request is for personal hygiene items, such as deodorant, that is a must for students! Our students participate in GYM, Dance, Athletics and LCC, all very active physical education classes that cause perspiration! Having personal sized deodorants to handout as needed will allow our students to go about the day without worrying if they have unwanted odor! Other hygiene items include, individual petroleum jelly packets for chapped lips while practicing in the cooler weather and nose clips to help stop nosebleeds, an unfortunate occurrence when students are hit with balls, run into each other or even the occasional wall!
We are also requesting air fresheners to help curb the musty/yucky bathroom odors in the students restroom/changing area. Other items requested in our project are student incentive prizes to be given when students return paperwork, such as medical referrals and immunization records required to participate in school & extra curricular activities of the physical nature.
