Mrs. Sistare from Columbia SC is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need to attend Hello Lit Con in Charleston so I can learn best practices for Reading and Writing Workshop and coach the teachers in my building on the best way to implement these strategies!

I teach in Columbia, SC. I will begin my 9th year here this upcoming year and it will be my second year serving as the Master Teacher and Reading Coach. I have taught grades K-3rd, previously. Our school services close to 180 students in grades PreK3-6th grade. Our school is truly special because families have to commit to dropping off and picking up our students each day. Our students are natural inquirers. Always asking questions and wanting to know more. Our students are passionate about learning and our teachers are passionate about teaching. In our district all students receive free breakfast and lunch. This year brings a new level of excitement for me as I am stepping out of the classroom and into a new position. The hardest part about teaching (for me) is letting my students go after two years. I am so excited that now I will be able to work with them from the time they are in Pre-K until they leave us when they complete 6th grade.
I want to attend Hello Lit Con in Charleston. This conference is hosted by the fabulous Jen Jones who knows a whole lot about implementing Reading and Writing Workshop.
Research has proven that Reading and Writing Workshop and allowing students to engage in authentic reading and writing is the best way to improve their achievement!
My school has embraced this philosophy and my job as the Reading Coach is to support the teachers as we make this philosophy our reality. I need to go to Hello Lit Con so that I can learn strategies from others about how to put these best practices into place in our school!
