My students need 4 Chromebooks in their English classes to have full access and type their writing assignments to progress in their general education push-in classes.
At the end of the school year, I would want my students to have successfully written an essay so that they are prepared for the next school year. My biggest challenge is that my students lack motor skills to help them write at a typical processing speed and level. This causes a lack of confidence.
My students are curious learners who want to do well in school.
Although they are familiar and seasoned with technology, most of my students face learning challenges that hinder their overall progress in the academic areas at school. To have access to technology in the classroom would advance my students who face occupational and/or learning disabilities at a higher level compared to their peers.
I am very fortunate that the school that I work for has supportive families and is surrounded by a community that puts learning first. We are a school that values technology and tries to advance in that area by using devices whenever possible. At the moment we share carts of Chromebooks with the whole school. To be able to have a few in my class would help my students succeed in all their classes.
My Project
My students will use the Chromebooks to work on their writing assignments for their English class. Not only do they write narrative, explanatory, and argumentative essays, they type up blogs and create virtual journals such as Blendspace. When we have to wait for the cart or do not have daily access to the Chromebooks, it hinders the students progress.
Having daily access to these Chromebooks, will allow us to work on our essays and blogs daily. We will also use Google Docs for assignments so that other students can comment for peer-editing and constructive feedback assignments that help with the over-all writing process. My students can then share their work with other teachers so that we can have a collaborative approach to our common assessments. My students will learn to be independent writers and be state of the art students.
Having Chromebooks in my classroom for daily use would greatly impact the confidence of my writers.
My students should not be denied to be a writer due to their processing speed. Generous donations to this project will allow my students to not have their learning disrupted by wait time. This will change their lives for the better as they will gain confidence and their writing speed would not be an issue or a factor for work completion.
