I need several books on reading intervention for Dyslexia and other disabilities to help me learn how to help my students become better readers.

My Project

As a 25-year veteran teacher, I have seen and taught several reading fads from whole language, balanced literacy, and the science of reading. I also know that no single method works for every single child. Some students just struggle to read. That's where I come in and reading intervention has become my passion over the past few years. I get to teach 3rd and 4th graders with disabilities that they can become readers.

Nothing brings me greater joy, than seeing a non-reader become a fluent reader; or greater sadness than seeing a student struggle year after year and still work on the same reading goals.

The reading program I am using to teach my students with disabilities is effective for about 80% of my students. Unfortunately, there are a small handful of students that are just not making the progress I expect. Many of these students have ADHD, a language impairment, an intellectual impairment, and may even be learning English as their second language on top of having a disability.

I am in search of strategies that will work for that small group of students every year who still aren't grasping the foundations of reading. I am requesting several books that I can skim now and read in-depth before the next school year that will hopefully have the right combination to help all learners succeed. These books will help with assessment, various teaching models and strategies and even motivating the reluctant reader. Often when a child is behind their peers, they lack motivation to try because nothing has worked before. Help me find the right combination so all my students will become readers.
