This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
35 millimeter? What is that? In this age of digital technology it is important that our kids have the opportunity to become familiar with and have access to the latest technology.
I am the library media specialist for Pre K-5th grade students in a low socio-economic school. We have a high population of second language learners in our Title-One school. Most of our students come from homes that cannot afford the latest techy gadgets.
My students are interested in learning how to use the latest technology and how different technologies work together to enhance and increase your possibilities. As the media specialist I try to make available as many of these resources to my staff and teachers as possible. We have many different clubs and activities happening at our school, like Dashing Dragons, Storytelling, Newsletter Club, ITV News, Choir, Poetry Club, Student Council, Nevada Reading Week, and Yearbook. All of these activities would like to use digital media such as cameras and camcorders to record their events to share with families, other students in the school, and to serve as a collection of memories through yearbooks, newsletters, and videos.
One valuable resource we don't have is a nice digital camera. We currently have to rely on our own personal cameras or use disposable cameras for our projects. I believe it is important for the students involved in these clubs and programs to learn how to use the technology, not just rely on a teacher to record events on their own personal cameras. The camera we receive would be available for checkout from the library for any school sponsored events or activities. It will be used for clubs and organizations, as well as to enhance teaching situations, and record memories as we learn and grow together.
You will make it possible for my students to use the latest technology in their learning, in preserving their memories, and to make learning more fun and engaging!
