For an advisory group of 12 7/8 graders, we are planning to create a photo journal of NYC, past and present. We will be comparing it to the architecture of Gaudi in Barcelona as well as housing native fish species of the Hudson River.
How is our city changing? How are we changing with it? Some of the photographs we will be taking will be at the same place during all 4 seasons. Our slideshow will have the students poetry narrating the pictures. We have the digital cameras and computer software, we just need books and articles of architecture and design.
The new New york Highline. Once a freighter train route for Nabisco which killed hundreds in its path, was recently designed as a walkway for viewing New York's Hudson River. Before the west side became industrial in the early part of the century, it used to be a focal point of ocean and freshwater life to spawn. After industrialization, it has now become a place for the 'boho chic' to live. Where do we fit in all of this and how do we affect its change? With the resources you provide we will be able to look at photographs of old New York and it's history. The students will visit these sites and photograph them from the same angle and write poetry about the change. We will be using our Gaudi books as an integrated art project where the students look at Gaudi's architecture and New York City's, to design paintings and sculptures using styles that the children connect to. The aquarium books will help us take care of aquatic life in the Hudson River that we will house in the classroom.
You will make it possible for our students to do the necessary research of New York's past to document the direction this great city has gone and will go in. We will be going on biweekly trips to various sites of the students' choosing and create our slide show for the entire school.
