Our school is a Title I school, which means ninety percent or more students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are from low-income households where most have non-English speaking parents.
Sadly, many of my students have failed third grade already and began this school year with minimal resources.
Despite the hardships they endure, my students are eager to come to school to learn every day.
They enjoy participating, working collaboratively and motivating each other to work hard; however, they are very limited in their access to technology. Together, with a little push and help, I am confident our class will succeed and surpass expectations! None of us is as strong as all of us!
As educators, we are always looking for creative ways to reward and celebrate good behavior and excellent academic achievement. This year I came across an idea that has been in the works, a brag board. The idea is to have students' pictures displayed as "selfies" when they excel in certain areas such as fluency, iReady, Reflex Math, and Class Dojo. They may keep their picture once it comes down.
Students' achievement should be captured and applauded, for their triumph is our success.
The camera and the film will allow me to take their pictures when they excel in any of these areas. Furthermore, I can also capture special moments and activities we do throughout the year.
