My students need digital cameras to document their achievements and share at our events. We show slideshows and short movies of the job sites where they work and the volunteer opportunities they have participated in.
Our students are fun-loving, determined and have contagious personalities. They are 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders who have special needs that range from cerebral palsy, Down's Syndrome, Autism to varies medical needs and Intellectual Disabilities.
To say these kids are awesome is an understatement!
They enjoy many of the things that typical middle school students have interests in, along with current TV shows, popular music and sports. In our classroom, we work hard to relate current events and popular topics to our students while reaching them on their level. Sometimes, this means using creative ways to communicate! Many students require the use of assistive technology devices and pictures to communicate their wants and needs.
Each year our students do a series of showcases where they share photos and videos of projects and activities they've done throughout the semester. Parents and staff are invited to the event and its highly regarded by everyone as a terrific time to see what our students have been up to!
My Project
Our students will use the Sony digital cameras to document the activities they participate in, the work they do at their job sites and the other fun life skills projects that occur in our classrooms. They will use the photos and short video clips to create slideshows and short movies to share with families, friends and staff members at our annual Video Night, graduation event, end of the year recognition events and Fashion Show.
Parents and staff are always impressed and delighted to see what our students have been doing.
Many students have difficulty verbalizing, so pictures share our stories.
