My students are incredible. Being part of an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP) school community has helped my students grow into incredibly caring, reflective, and empathetic individuals who want to make the world a better place through inquiry and action. Every day, my students are working on developing their understanding of universal concepts like reflection, perspective, and responsibility.
My school is an incredibly diverse place, and this diversity makes it a unique, vibrant place for students to learn and grow.
Students are from a range of backgrounds. Some come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, while others are living in more financially secure households. About a third of my students are Latino; another third are black or Somali; another third are white. About a third of my students are English language learners (ELLs). Many are considered advanced learners in need of advanced differentiation.
My Project
In this project, I am requesting a high-quality camera that we can use in our classroom. We will use this camera for a variety of exciting purposes.
We will use this camera to create videos throughout the school year!
While we have been able to use our iPads/my phone for this in the past, the storage available on these devices is minimal, and it is VERY challenging to transfer video footage from the iPad to a computer due to restricted settings. I already have a plan for us to make a video using whiteboard messages in our current unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet!
I will also use this camera to take twice yearly photos of my students - at the beginning and the end of the school year. At the beginning of the year, students will be able to digitally edit their photos so their faces are surrounded by words that describe them. We will put these photographs up in our classroom, and they will go home with students and families at the end of the year! One of my coworkers did this previously, and I thought it was the most amazing gift to families.
