Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Here at my school, we have some guiding values that allow us to reach our highest potential. Perseverance and determination are the two values that remind us to never give up.
My class is small but mighty and we work hard to demonstrate perseverance and determination on a daily basis.
Within the group of 6, there are two students with visual impairments and 4 with learning in disabilities. They are a hard working group of students and deserve materials that will help them reach their fullest potential.
My Project
These materials meet my students' needs some very specific and important ways. My students with visual impairments are highly motivated to learn. They benefit greatly when given materials that are visually appropriate in color and size. The Place Value Coins and Giant Magnetic Fraction Circles and Bars are a perfect alternative to visuals provided in textbooks and works books which make it difficult to distinguish differences.
Students with learning disabilities also benefit from frequent practice with materials that are user friendly and that can be used independently.
As my students are getting higher in grade level, the importance of being problem solvers increases drastically. What's the Best Strategy? Problem Solving Centers, Visual Multiplication cards, and Solve, Flip & Check Fraction Cards will be valuable tools in giving variety to the options my students have when organizing information and evaluating information in a word problem. These materials are going to be very useful in helping my students master critical thinking skills while working in a group or independently. They will also be useful for practice in order to maintain skills that are learned.
