Ms. Corkron from Columbus GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the use of an Apple iPad Mini to access apps that will facilitate functional and meaningful communication skills necessary for daily living activities.

Imagine going in a cafeteria and trying to order without being able to speak. Imagine passing someone in the hallway and not being able to greet them. These are some challenges my students face due to limitations with speech. Through technology, my students can overcome these obstacles and more.
My students have multiple disabilities ranging from Autism to Cerebral Palsy.
They all receive special education services for the majority of their school day. They all require one on one assistance from an adult to participate in activities relating to school and daily living. Our school serves approximately 550 students in grades PK-5. 100% of our student population receive free or reduced lunch. We are considered a Title One School.
My students absolutely love technology. They are all fascinated with computers, SMART phones, and interactive SMART boards in the classroom. They are able to accomplish so much more through the use of various technological devices rather than using standard classroom tools. Technology makes learning fun and is somehow able to tap into my students' interests and develop their ability levels much more effectively than regular classroom manipulatives. They will use the iPad minis to facilitate communication and develop their vocabulary so that they can participate in basic classroom and school activities. Furthermore, they can enhance their academic performance by using the apps for drill and practice activities.
This project will greatly increase the chances of successful learning opportunities in school.
The knowledge gained will hopefully enhance school performance and carry over into family and community activities.
