Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning, the attendance roster for my class shows a classroom filled with smart seven and eight-year old students bursting at the seams with excitement! Among them, I have English language learners, students with special needs, and academically gifted students. Despite their early age, they are all capable of making choices that can enhance their learning environment, namely, flexible seating. Currently, my classroom has some yoga balls and yoga cushions, but there are not enough for all my second grade students.
My Project
With these lap desks, my second grade students will have a flexible seating option that is not their hard, plastic chair and wobbly old desk. The lap desks are great, because students can use them anywhere in the classroom either alone, with a partner, or to work in a group. As their teacher, I absolutely love that the lap desks are lightweight making them an option for moving the classroom outdoors on a nice day. Students would surely never forget that lesson! Long gone are the days of the traditional classroom of chairs and desks neatly arranged in rows. My second graders are savvy about their seating!
