You know the rush you get when you find the perfect pair of running shoes and wear them for the first time? Or, what about that feeling you get when you use a brand new piece of equipment for your favorite sport for the first time? It's pretty amazing and motivating.
Our student-athletes are energetic, enthusiastic 6th, 7th and 8th graders at a middle school in Aurora, Colorado.
The athletes at our school are a wonderful mix of cultures, races, and backgrounds. Many of our students come from military families as well. Many of them, though, have not had the chance to have that motivating rush of new, fully functioning equipment and we want to try to fix that.
The athletes in our school include some of the fittest students in the building and they have done many incredible things with some very old, outdated, insufficient equipment.
My Project
We have been fortunate enough to finally have a fully outfitted heart rate monitor program and now we need to make sure we make the most of our time with it. We also frequently use floor tape to make more courts and create activities for our students so the tape layer would be a huge help.
We would much rather spend our time actually playing and learning in our classes and these tools will help us gain some time back.
The heart rate monitors are class sets, and there is a very quick turnover in between class periods. Having a way to easily organize them each period will help us make the most of our class time. The tape layer will allow us to quickly and easily set up our classes for different activities and it will help save our backs!
