My students need rechargeable batteries! The batteries are for the clicker system we use for testing, and the battery packs will help us charge the batteries between use.
How do humans impact the world? We explore this question in depth every day in our course, and the students are brilliant in coming up with ways to answer! We look at the world around us, and are eager to suggest ways that humans impact the environment--and ways we can help.
Freshman are a certain type of student--no longer curious middle schoolers, but still unsure of their place in life.
Keeping them active is my main goal, and technology is the way to go. Our school really pushes integrating technology into each and every lesson, and I am proud to do my part. The students know their way around the technology more than some teachers--and it's always amazing to have them teach you about it for a change.
My Project
The rechargeable batteries will be used to power "clickers." These clickers are used for students to enter answers on a test--and get feed back immediately. I use them for every test, and for some quick 'check for understanding' items. The students enjoy the clickers because they are much like a cell phone, and it's like they get to text in class. It helps keep their interest, to say the least!
In a world where education is shifting to testing results, the batteries will help us keep up with the demand.
Also, this shows the students that any action, no matter how small, can impact the environment. By switching to reusable batteries, we are saving at least 60 batteries per year! If our entire school switches, that's over 600 batteries that will no longer sit in landfills. Every step counts--no matter how small!
