Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Los Angeles, part of a big school district (LAUSD). They are from different cultures, areas, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have 40+ students in each of three chemistry classrooms.
My students absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects that challenge them and allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
When it comes to technology, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to immerse themselves in any kind of challenges.
My Project
Students in my class will be doing projects related to the Enviromental principles.
In this endeavor, they will need basic tools and supplies including items such as safety goggles and stools for the lab.
As part of the project the students will visit the LA Environmental center and learn about ECO systems and recycling.
Students will use the scientific method to solve the environmental problems and study the impact of science on their own communities. Ultimately, by participating in lab assignments ranging from topics like water conservation (saving the rain water) to clean drinking water, students will increase their scientific literacy and become more actively engaged citizens of the broader scientific community.
