This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Mrs. Godoy from Opa Locka FL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 2 student work organizers, pencils, an electric sharpener, construction paper, markers and extra supply caddies to organize their work.

My students are always frustrated because they are never prepared for class. The reason why they are not prepared is because they never have the right tools to use in the classroom. They don't have the right tools because there are no funds to buy them. This leaves me with the decision to buy supplies with my own money.
My second grade students live in South Florida.
They are the sweetest bunch of kids you could ever meet. They love to do activities at school and love to be complimented when they get it right. They come from diverse backgrounds so they require extra time to learn the skills. They are from low income families which is the reason they are lacking they supplies they need for school. They get frustrated because when they want to do something and they don't have the tools they need to do the work, it becomes a problem for all. They have to learn to deal with the frustration and sometimes share the supplies so that the work can get done. Some of them handle the problem with no complain. However there are others that the problem is too much for them. The school is a low income school so asking for supplies is pointless. As a teacher I try to keep supplies handy, but having to constantly supply 33 students can run a high bill. These students deserve a chance to succeed.
Besides doing Everyday Math and science work my students also do outdoor work in our school gardens. There sometimes they create poems about their plants. They look at seeds through a magnifying glass and draw pictures of the different seeds. They analyze the dirt and create booklets about how to care for the plants. In the booklets they include descriptions of the gardens and draw pictures of how the plants are doing. They make poster boards to push others to protect the plants and the environment by keeping the school grounds clean. They also make poster boards about recycling and the importance of reusing things so the environment can be saved. They create books about the gardens and their plant using sentences and pictures in their descriptions. The students get really excited when they work in the gardens and then write daily work journals. All of the food grown in the gardens is used to make salads and recipes that they eat.
These projects are important because students come to school to learn.
These supplies will make a big difference in the lives of the children at the school because they will provide new and extended opportunities for learning. Resulting projects will impact their lives because as they grow they can learn to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families. When students work with plants their whole view changes. They come together with nature and life.
