The students in my class are full of energy, wonder, and enthusiasm. They come from various diverse cultures, speak various languages, and many of their families are struggling economically.
They are a community of learners where everyone is valued, where everyone has a voice, where everyone is a self-manager, and where everyone is respected and welcomed.
The school they attend is in the state of Washington. It is culturally diverse, with almost 70% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, and over 30% are English language learners.
My Project
A teacher just handed a student a green, good behavior ticket to recognize exceptional behavior of a child. Each student throughout the school works hard to earn a green ticket during the day for a trip to the school store every two weeks.
Each child saves their tickets and can spend them in the school store or save them to buy a bigger prize the next time they visit the store.
Help these students get honored for their positive behavior!
My school has adopted school wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS emphasizes the establishment of organizational supports and systems that give our staff the capacity to use effective interventions accurately and successfully. It is a prevention-oriented way for all school staff to maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS supports the success of ALL students. My school has adopted school wide expectations that require our students to be respectful, responsible, safe and here to learn. Every two weeks, students get to spend their tickets at the school store. The sketch pads, pull back cars, chips, cookies, candy bars, suckers and other snacks that I am requesting will be used to show our students that we appreciate their efforts. These resources can and will brighten the day of many children.
