Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an inner city school, and our student population is made up of 99% minority kids. Many of my students qualify for our free and reduced lunch program. In spite of the challenges we face, there is a lot of school pride at our campus. My kids are resilient and determined to create a better life. There is so much promise talent and hope in my students that they inspire me to new and creative ways to challenge and support their academic, social and economic development.
My Project
My class is on a mission to create a new paradigm for modern inner city living. I am asking for an ATOPSUN Super Bright LED Grow Light Panel Full Spectrum For Indoor Plants, Polycarbonate Tubing, and a Solar Powered Submersible Water Well Pump, heat guns, a hole cutter set, a Solar Air Pump for Fish Pond, epoxy glue and other materials for aquaponic system prototypes. Students will use the materials to create aquaponic systems adapted to the spaces and the lifestyles of inner city people. The facility will be a place where we can provide instruction in the art of aquaponics. My students will lead workshops in basic aquaponics, aquaponics system design and system installation.
We want to give our community the gift of healthy organic food and facilitate a re-connection of people to the natural world.
Benefits of the program include decreasing environmental impacts of traditional agriculture, improving the quality of diet of community residents, creating a training opportunity for students in an explosive new industry. The future is now.
