I am a math specialist who services students in grades 3rd through 7th at an arts infused, college prep Charter School. It is an extremely high-need community where 100% of our students receive free lunch.

I work on math concepts with over 80 students on a daily basis. The students get tired of completing worksheets as a form of assessment, but I have found that they love to write on whiteboards. I currently only have 6 whiteboards that have been used with my students for a year. The boards are beginning to show the wear and tear that comes with daily use. All of my markers have began to dry out and I have never had enough erasers for my students.

Whiteboards serve as an assessment tool for me to see what my students know and what concepts they are still struggling with. I am able to use the whiteboards as both an incentive and a tool to engage my students in learning. I have also found that using whiteboards has dramatically cut down on the number of copies I make in a week, thus saving lots of paper.

Your help will make it possible for my students to enjoy being engaged in daily math lessons, as well as the math work being done in a fashion that is easily assessable for me. The students are able to take risks when completing math because they know it can easily be erased and changed if needed.
