My students need a set of gardening tools to work in our school garden. Over the summer break our school's garden shed was broken into, and all of our tools were stolen.

My Students

My school is set in a rural Northern California town that has high poverty and low socioeconomic families. Most of the families in our district qualify for free lunch and social services. In a class of 24 children I have multiple students with identified special needs. Their needs range from autism, speech delays, to developmental disabilities. I am the only self-contained transitional kindergarten teacher at a school that serves TK-2nd grade.

My class is in desperate need of supplies to work in our school garden.

It is important for young children to learn in an outdoor environment. It incorporates STEAM learning which is a focus at our school. Our garden is used by our entire school, and we are all at a loss without a set of tools.

My Project

Every week the classes at our elementary school work in our school garden. Right now there are no tools making it impossible for our students to learn in the garden. Over the summer vacation our tools were stolen, and we are in desperate need of a class set of tools.

These tools will benefit more than four hundred kindergarten through second grade students.

The adult set of tools will be used by the teacher and the sets of children's tools will be used by the students. The garden is an outdoor learning environment at our school, and we are at a loss without our tools.
