This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 2nd grade students are an energetic, passionate and special group of children. They come from a variety of ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have five different home languages represented in my classroom.
This diversity adds so much to my classroom, that academics never could.
I have some students above grade level, but the majority of my students are working below 2nd grade level. They are fun and energetic and love to make jokes. I have noticed that my students are way more engaged in my lessons when I make them fun and interactive.
My Project
This is my first year teaching, and I came into a classroom with an overwhelming classroom library with lots of books and a variety of different shaped and colored book bins. The important part missing was organization and I felt overwhelmed. Recently, I got rid of a lot of books because I feel like, for my students, less is more. I want my students to be able to easily see and find the books that interest them the most.
One of my favorite parts about teaching is seeing my students stuck in the world of the book in their hands.
Another important aspect of my project is the individual book bins that each student will have. Right now, all of my students have a plastic book bag that holds their library books and a few books from my classroom library.
