Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With the recent push to make sure teachers teach students how to read and know basic math skills, funding for SCIENCE materials have been cut at the state, local district, and school level. Budgets have been tighter and tighter these past few years for my school site. Cuts have been made to the science program; leaving science purchases solely for consumable student workbooks.
My third graders needs non-consumable materials that we can use to support our science curriculum for this year and the years to come. Physical, Life, and Earth science videos as well as other learning tools are needed so students will be able to better understand the science concepts we teach. Not only will these concepts be taught, but we will be able to use these materials to tie in cross-curricular subjects like Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
I am requesting the Lakeshore Work & Energy, Electricity, Astronomy, Animal Kingdom videos in addition to an ecosystems photo book, a Solar System fact finder book, and eight science activity tubs. Each science activity tub comes with many items my students need to explore a different concept in-depth, including easy-to-use cards featuring fun, cross-curricular activities based on national science standards. We will be able to create our own constellations, keep a weather journal, test the pull of gravity or even go on a rock scavenger hunt! These tubs are packed with activities that will not only invigorate but save the science curriculmn.
