My students need a new refrigerator to keep their lunches cool. We have lunch in the room because our students struggle with the noise level in the cafeteria. With no A/C, our room gets hot.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are autistic students with learning and emotional disabilities.
Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class has very low communication skills, and many struggles with basic phonics and number sense. 90% of our students are African American or Latino. While special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in reading and math, I strongly believe in effectively teaching social skills to students with an autistic spectrum disorder. Also, I believe the classroom setting is another way to increase skill acquisition and independence and lower stress and anxiety.
My Project
We are in need of a new refrigerator for our Autistic Support classroom. Our students have lunch in the classroom instead of the school cafeteria due to sensory overload.
Having a refrigerator will help keep the food from spoiling, especially during the hotter days since we are without air conditioning as well.
Cool water, ice pops, and ice packs also help students stay cool in the classroom.
By having a refrigerator, it will help keep the students stay in a controlled environment for a peaceful and successful lunchtime. The students will successfully meet behavior expectations and willingly work for a more positive lunchtime.
