Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Whew! The gifted 4th and 5th grade students worked hard studying and building a model city. Now they would love the opportunity to make real-life connections by taking a trolley tour of this great city. Most of my students have never traveled to our historic downtown city, only miles away.
We are a Title I Elementary School.
We are 100% free-and reduced lunch. My students are bright gifted and talented youngsters who are often underexposed to learning opportunities, due to lack of available funds. I am an advocate for these learners, and want them to have an education that will allow them to be successful and productive citizens and promote lifelong learning!
My Project
We hope to ride a trolley from our school doors to our downtown Historic District, to hear a tour given by our guide that will describe the rich characters and landmarks located on our city's squares. The students will make connections to their research they completed for this project. Many children will see their model they built come to life when they view it with their own eyes!
Experiencing learning opportunities that provide real-life connections generates learning.
When students experience learning through authentic lessons, complete with field trip experiences, they remember and grow as learners. Funding for this trolley tour will be the culminating activity that will aid these striving 4th and 5th grade learners in making vital real-life connections to historical characters and events.
