My students need books that inspire and educate. These books are requested by my students. These fabulous nonfiction books will be a wonderful addition to our class library.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, talented and energetic individuals. They face significant challenges in their daily lives. Nearly all of my students come from low-income families and many from single-parent households. Nevertheless, my students are bold, courageous and spirited. They enjoy interacting with one another, expressing their creativity, and exploring new topics.
It is my goal to help my students adopt a love of reading and develop a passion for learning.
I believe what helps students love to read is access to great books by amazing authors. When students are encouraged to ask questions, their curiosity grows. Someone wise has said, "The future belongs to the curious - the ones who are not afraid to try it, explore it, poke at it, question it, and turn it inside out." I think it is this kind of attitude that is at the heart of real learning.
My Project
These books are some of the best choices in nonfiction to inspire and educate. Hidden Figures and She Persisted are two titles about strong, smart and amazing women who overcame great obstacles to achieve their goals. This is a message I want my students to know. The biographies are about people my students have shown an interest in and want to learn more about. Your contribution to this project will show my students the power of community. It will show how we are better together, stronger together and smarter together. The idea that strangers care about their education is a powerful motivator and sparks even more interest in the materials.
These books are some of the highest rated science, engineering, biography and nonfiction books for kids available.
They will make a great addition to our classroom library.
