In our urban school we are constantly looking for new and exciting things and ways to explore. In a diverse socioeconomically challenged environment, our scholars have limited access to art materials. Despite this challenge the students are energetic and enthusiastic to produce quality art.
Our students love making art that is relevant to current events as a way to express their voice in our community.
By producing art the students are gaining self confidence, team work skills, and an appreciation for the community. Parents and students alike realize that characteristics learned in art are transferable to all areas of their lives and provide strength and vision for the future. The students have the ability to work in their school studio space daily, and they often stay after school to produce quality conceptual and technical artwork.
My Project
Providing these pallet knives, acrylic paint, and colored wire, scholars will have the opportunity to explore science through the lens of an artist. Artists such as Michelangelo and Alexander Calder provide great examples for student exploration into the fields of science and visual art. Studying color theory, geometry, and physics opens new avenues for student connection between the disciplines. Students will create colorful masterpieces with these materials. These works can range from sculpture and painting to kinetic works of art. The skills attained from making this type of project creates the ability to problem solve and develop skills that can be used in everyday life.
These materials allow the students the opportunity to engage in exploration and art appreciation.
Learning to problem solve through exploration and imagination opens new windows of opportunity for our students. Your contribution will encourage our students to continue their journey of exploration in science, geometry, and art.
