My Students

I am a social worker in a small rural district in central Illinois. I work with children and adolescents that are experiencing a variety of mental health concerns. They are amazing kiddos and inspire the best in everyone they meet. Despite challenges and barriers they face, they keep trying and putting forth their best effort. They come into my office ready to work on themselves and their interactions with others.

My students range in age from 4 to 18 and each student brings unique skill sets to the social work setting.

I enjoy working with all of them!

My Project

Sand Tray Therapy is an evidence-based technique that I use to help students work through trauma and difficult feelings and to provide psycho-education on topics like social skills and appropriate school behavior. The kids make huge gains when we use the sand tray. I am split between two buildings and have one in one building and would love to be able to offer this technique to the students in my other building.

When I use the sand tray, students are able to work through their feelings by using miniatures to represent different aspects of their life or of a situation.

Working in the sand is relaxing and they are able to calm their nervous systems and see solutions to problems that they would not be able to identify with other treatment modalities.
