Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are two and three years old. Some of my students have special needs. Some students are also English language learners. Two and three year old children have high energy and require a great deal of care.
Many of my students come from a low socioeconomic background.
There are many housing projects and shelters surrounding the school.
This is the first schooling experience for all of my students. We are learning to say good bye to our families and learn how to be in school.
My Project
The resources in this project are both regular sand and colored sand. Students will use the sand in our sand table during center time. The sand table can accommodate four students at a time who will play at the sand table using shovels, buckets and other sand materials.
Sand play has many benefits for developing children.
My students love the sand table because it is so calming. When students lift shovels and pour sand buckets they develop gross motor skills. Sand play also helps students to expand their imagination and helps them to express their emotions or calm down. Lastly, sand play promotes social interactions.
