This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere. My students are in an alternative setting with Autism Spectrum Disorder–need, low-income public school, nestled in the heart of a military town in North Carolina. Each one of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who look for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.
Most of us take for granted the ability to self-regulate when we are under stress or pressure.
Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who come to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels. Help me, help my students with disabilities find peace and tranquility in our very own sensory room.
My Project
I am requesting resources in order to build a sensory room, within our classroom, for students who need a quiet space to decompress or sensory process. The requested materials include: bounce balls, sit ‘n spin, mini trampoline, and platform swing.
These materials will be set up in a special corner or space within the classroom and children with sensory needs or behavior issues will be able to go to the corner and decompress or sensory process.
Students will use bouncy ball when they have a hard time sitting still. Sit n' spin will be used when student becomes anxious. The mini trampoline will be used for students who need sensory input. It will be a positive space for the students to feel safe and it will help them take charge of their bodies and their environment.
