Our mission is to prepare 100% of our scholars with the academic foundation and the character skills necessary for success in college, career, and life. We believe that every scholar can learn, grow, prosper, and have a positive impact on their families and in their community. We are thrilled to take on year five of our seven-year growth plan.
The 500 scholars in our schools come from diverse backgrounds and have created their own community and family All of our scholars receive free lunch.
A majority, according to the state of MA, are economically disadvantaged. Too often our scholars struggle with food insecurity, housing insecurity, even homelessness. For the 2018-19 school year, the middle school will enroll 300 scholars in grades 6 through 8. The high school will enroll 200 scholars in grades 9 and 10. Our school believes all scholars, with hard work and support, can excel academically and see success in college, career, and life!
My Project
Soon, we will begin reading the novel, The Boys in the Boat. This book is a story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany. It chronicles the improbable, intimate journey of nine working-class boys from the American West as they appeared center stage to the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. It is a tale that focuses on what true grit really means.
The emotional heart of the tale lies with Joe Rantz, a teenager without family or prospects, who rows not only to regain his shattered self-regard but also to find a real place for himself in the world, a story not too unfamiliar from our scholars.
By adding this new novel to our curriculum, we hope to showcase the true meaning of grit and the importance of pushing one's self to ensure success.
