Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Students need to be involved in their learning so that they can take ownership of what they are learning.
We are a Title I school, with 100% participation in the reduced price/free lunch program.
Many of our students come from military families who have a parent overseas or single-income households. All of our students are eager to learn and need experiences that they are unable to get at home. It is my firm belief their socioeconomic status and/or language barriers should not keep them from experiencing the world and being able to problem-solve the world's issues.
My Project
I never thought I would feel the need to write a DonorsChoose request like this, but this is an issue many people seem hesitant to attempt to address on a classroom level. Regardless of how uncomfortable it is, it is better to be prepared for any event that may happen.
With the recent breeches in student safety at schools across the country, I want to do everything possible to keep my students safe in our classroom.
I would rather have my classroom be over prepared than underprepared. Our district safety and security procedures advise us to lock our doors, cover our windows, and to keep students away from doors and windows. This is not enough for me.
I am requesting two Barracuda Intruder Defense Systems. I want to protect our classroom as well as our MakerSpace Lab that my children frequently visit. This will be one more barrier that could possibly help keep us safe.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. Royster and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
