My students need additional safety in the classroom in case of an intruder situation. The Barracuda Defense System, lockdown magnetic strips, and decorative door stopper will help us feel safer in the classroom in case of a real lockdown scenario.
My diverse group of 3rd graders are from the middle class neighborhood that surrounds our school in Chandler, Arizona. My students are full of energy and come from unique backgrounds and varying cultures. My students thrive when I incorporate movement, collaborative groups, and the arts in my instruction. Our school is transitioning into an arts-integrated academy that encourages students to express how they learn best.
We create opportunities to teach the students lessons that are cross-curricular and involve music, movement, drama, and various mediums of art.
Student engagement has sky-rocketed since I have integrated the arts in my instruction. It is truly the best way to reach ALL learners. My students could use your support with the materials needed to successfully put their minds at ease when thinking of their safety in the classroom in our world today.
My Project
Unfortunately, safety in the classroom has been a hot topic on the news and in our world lately. Because of the increase in school shootings and lockdown situations, I want an extra layer of protection for my students with an intruder defense system that can be used with outward swinging doors.
My school already has a well-practiced lockdown routine.
However, the reality that we could someday be in a serious intruder situation has many of my students feeling scared and apprehensive each day at school. We need a Barracuda Defense System, lockdown magnetic strips, and decorative door stopper. By adding these items to my classroom, I can help students feel like I prioritize their safety. Hopefully, this extra layer will result in students being focused on learning and our classroom community rather than what might or might not happen in an emergency situation.
