This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, work with their hands and love lots of positive attention. My students come from low-social economic households with numerous risk factors. Most of my students will be first generation college students. My students have the desire to graduate from high school and go on to college. They have dreams to become successful and productive citizens that want to bring change to our community. Many of my students are excited about attending college as well as looking forward to new beginnings. They live in one of the nation's toughest neighborhoods, and they approach the world with a hope to make it better. They are talented, full of energy, and willing to serve others.
My Project
After witnessing a battery spill at a robotics event last year our team realized that we need to upgrade our level of preparedness for emergencies. We have a large fire extinguisher and a big box of baking soda in our workroom at school, but we don't take them to events because they are too large.
We want to be prepared for any emergency, whether we are in our workroom or at an event.
We need some portable items to take to events. We also want to improve our signage so that we can quickly locate the items that we may need in an emergency.
