I have the most amazing 6th graders in the world. They are world changers with a passion for knowledge. Many of these sweet kiddos have a new found love for science and are interested n pursuing a career in the field when they get older.
My students are innovators that aspire to make a difference and change the world.
They are historians, scientists, authors, and mathematicians that need rich experiences to inspire learning and foster new ideas. These amazing kids never cease to find the joy in every day and they radiate happiness to those around them.
My Project
Middle school is a pivotal period in all of my students' lives. In addition to the physical, cognitive, and emotional changes, there is also a drop in academic related enthusiasm. My goals as an educator are to help my students find a new-found love for science and an interest in science related careers.
According to the National Science Teachers Association, "Science concepts must be presented in engaging ways so students can build on their prior knowledge and attain the necessary background to participate successfully and responsibly in our highly scientific and technological society.”
It comes as no surprise that the majority of students like to learn though hands on methods. It is through these methods that students get authentic experiences and a deeper understanding of the content. In order to allow my students to participate in these types of learning experiences, I have to ensure their safety. I need for all of my students to have access to lab goggles and aprons to protect their eyes and clothes from any lab substance we are using. With the proper gear I will be able to create even more experiences and cultivate a stronger interest and love for science.
